# Heatmaps

The **Heatmaps** tool in Incident Tracker provides a visual representation of where reports are being submitted on a mapped location, such as a campus or building layout. These maps are generated based on data submitted through forms that include an image map.

***

## Accessing Heatmaps

1. Navigate to **Reports and Analytics > Heatmaps**.
2. Select the **form** that includes image mapping.
3. Choose a specific **image** (e.g., Campus Map or Building Layout).
4. Set your **date range** to define which reports are included.
5. Click **Render Map for Date Range** to generate the visual.

***

## Understanding the Heatmap

* **Red areas** represent the highest frequency of reports.
* **Blue/green areas** represent lower activity levels.
* This visualization helps identify hot spots of incidents or trends on specific locations.

{% hint style="warning" %}
Heatmaps require the use of a form that includes an image map field and must be consistently used in report submissions.
