# Notification Settings and Groups

Incident Tracker allows administrators to configure automated email notifications through the **Notification Settings and Groups** feature. This functionality enables timely communication to designated individuals or groups when specific events occur within the system.

## Creating Alert Groups

To create an alert group:

1. Navigate to **Admin > Notification Settings and Groups**.
2. Click on the **Alert Groups** tab.
3. Click **Add New Group**.
4. Enter a **Group Name**.
5. Add email addresses to the group.
6. Click **Save** to create the group.

Alert groups can include both Incident Tracker users and external email addresses.

## Configuring Notification Settings

To set up notification preferences:

1. Navigate to **Admin > Notification Settings and Groups**.
2. Click on the **Notification Settings** tab.
3. Choose the type of notification:
   * **Global Notifications**: Apply to all reports submitted.
   * **Category-Based Notifications**: Trigger based on specific report categories.
   * **Location-Based Notifications**: Trigger based on specific report locations.
4. Assign the appropriate alert group(s) to each notification type.
5. Click **Save** to apply the settings.

## Managing Alert Groups

* **Editing a Group**: Click the **Edit icon** next to the group name to modify its members or name.
* **Deleting a Group**: Click the **Delete icon** to remove the group.

Deleting an alert group will remove it from all associated notification settings.

## Best Practices

* Regularly review and update alert groups to ensure accurate and relevant notifications.
* Utilize category and location-based notifications for targeted communication.
* Test notification settings to confirm proper delivery to intended recipients.
